Question: What are five ways in
which we can show respect to officials?
1. Hand the ball to the nearest official, or help retrieve a loose ball
2. Don't yell at the officials from the bench
3. Don't make gestures at the officials
4. Wear protective gear
5. Captains shake hands with officials before the game
As a coach I can reinforce this lesson by:
- Not yelling at the officials
- Encouraging the kids to talk to me about their emotions
- Modeling respectful communication to the officials
- Teaching kids that the purpose of the officials is to ensure safe and fair play
- Not whining or pouting about a call from the bench
